Android Penetration-Testing Lab

Deliver a reproducible, framework-mapped Android penetration-testing environment that lets a learner execute and document a full mobile attack chain end to end.

**The problem**
Most students and junior testers lack a safe, legally-owned environment to practice mobile attack chains, so they experiment against production apps or skip mobile entirely. Enterprises struggle to onboard mobile pentesters because there is no standardized, repeatable lab that mirrors real-world Android threat surfaces (IPC, deep links, insecure storage, exported components). Without hands-on tooling around Frida, objection, and a rooted/emulated device, OWASP MASVS controls stay theoretical.

**What you'll build**
Build a fully-scripted, reproducible Android pentest lab combining Genymotion/AVD emulators (and optionally a rooted physical device), Magisk, Frida, objection, MobSF, and Burp Suite, orchestrated with automation scripts and deliberately-vulnerable target apps (DIVA, InsecureBankv2, OWASP MASTG crackmes). Provide guided attack playbooks mapped to OWASP MASVS/MASTG and a reporting template that produces evidence-grade findings. Package it as a portable, Vagrant/Docker-driven build so any student can stand up an identical lab in minutes.

**Objective** — Deliver a reproducible, framework-mapped Android penetration-testing environment that lets a learner execute and document a full mobile attack chain end to end.

**Expected outcome** — A one-command-deployable Android pentest lab plus a completed sample MASVS-mapped assessment report against the bundled vulnerable apps.

**Difficulty** — Intermediate — requires rooting/emulator internals, dynamic instrumentation, and proxying, but targets are pre-built and guided.

**Primary category** — Penetration Testing; Secondary = Mobile AppSec, Vulnerability Assessment

**Security domains** — Primary = Red Team; Secondary = Purple Team, DevSecOps, Security Research, Malware Analysis

**Technical focus** — Mobile penetration testing, dynamic instrumentation (Frida/objection), SSL pinning bypass, insecure data storage, IPC/exported-component abuse, deep-link/intent testing, WebView exploitation, MASTG test execution, lab automation

**Core technologies** — Languages: Python, JavaScript (Frida), Bash, Kotlin/Java (target apps); Frameworks/Libraries: Frida, objection, MASTG; Security Tools: MobSF, Burp Suite, Frida, objection, Magisk, adb, apktool, jadx, Genymotion/AVD; Cloud/Infra: Docker, Vagrant, Android Emulator/QEMU; AI/Data: optional LLM for report drafting; Databases: SQLite (app data inspection)

**Where it's valued** — Cybersecurity consulting, fintech/banking, healthtech, mobile-first startups, product security teams, MSSPs

**Careers it builds toward** — Mobile Penetration Tester, Application Security Engineer, Red Team Operator, Security Consultant

**Framework alignment**
• MITRE ATT&CK: ATT&CK for Mobile — Initial Access via deep links, Process Injection/Dynamic instrumentation (T1631 Process Injection), Input Capture (T1417), Access Sensitive Data in Device Logs (T1636), Hooking (T1617)
• NIST CSF 2.0: Identify (asset/attack-surface enumeration), Protect (control validation), Detect (evidence of weak controls)
• OWASP: MASVS-STORAGE, MASVS-CRYPTO, MASVS-NETWORK, MASVS-PLATFORM, MASVS-RESILIENCE; MASTG test cases
• CIS Controls v8: 4 (Secure Configuration), 16 (Application Software Security), 18 (Penetration Testing)

**Innovation** — Improved Existing Solution — mobile pentest labs exist, but a fully-automated, MASVS-mapped, one-command reproducible teaching lab has strong training value. Scores: Innovation 5/10, Startup 4/10, Enterprise-Readiness 6/10, Patent = No.
