Automated Vulnerability Scanner
Deliver automated, orchestrated multi-layer vulnerability discovery with risk-based prioritization and clean, engineer-ready remediation reporting.
Manual vulnerability assessment does not scale to modern estates of hundreds of hosts and web apps, and off-the-shelf scanners produce noisy, poorly prioritized findings with weak business context. Teams struggle to correlate network, host, and web-layer weaknesses into an actionable, deduplicated remediation queue. Organizations need automated, repeatable scanning with reliable prioritization and clean reporting that engineers will actually action.
**What you'll build**
Build an orchestrated scanning platform that coordinates network discovery, service fingerprinting, and web/application checks, enriches findings with CVE/EPSS/CVSS and exploit-availability context, and deduplicates results into a prioritized remediation dashboard. Integrate template-based checks (Nuclei), authenticated web crawling, and CI/CD hooks so scanning runs continuously against a maintained asset inventory.
**Objective** — Deliver automated, orchestrated multi-layer vulnerability discovery with risk-based prioritization and clean, engineer-ready remediation reporting.
**Expected outcome** — A scanning engine plus dashboard that discovers assets, identifies vulnerabilities across network and web layers, prioritizes them with EPSS/CVSS context, and exports a deduplicated, ticket-ready remediation report.
**Difficulty** — Advanced — spans network protocols, scanner orchestration, CVE enrichment pipelines, and false-positive management at scale.
**Primary category** — Vulnerability Management / AppSec; Secondary = Penetration Testing, DevSecOps, SOC
**Security domains** — Primary = Blue Team; Secondary = Red Team (offensive validation), DevSecOps, GRC (vulnerability management program)
**Technical focus** — Network discovery, service/version fingerprinting, web crawling, template-based scanning, authenticated scanning, CVE/CVSS/EPSS enrichment, exploit-availability correlation, finding deduplication, risk prioritization, reporting automation, CI/CD security integration
**Core technologies** — Languages: Python, Go; Frameworks/Libraries: FastAPI, Celery, requests, python-nmap; Security Tools: Nmap, Nuclei, OWASP ZAP, Nikto, OpenVAS/Greenbone, Trivy, sqlmap; Cloud/Infra: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD runners (GitHub Actions/GitLab CI); AI/Data: ML-based finding deduplication and prioritization, EPSS scoring; Databases: PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis
**Where it's valued** — Nearly all sectors — enterprises, MSSPs, pentest firms, regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government), SaaS/DevSecOps organizations
**Careers it builds toward** — Vulnerability Management Engineer, Penetration Tester, Security Engineer, DevSecOps Engineer, SOC Analyst, AppSec Engineer
**Framework alignment**
• MITRE ATT&CK: Reconnaissance — Active Scanning (T1595), Gather Victim Host Information (T1592); Discovery — Network Service Discovery (T1046); informs Exploit Public-Facing Application (T1190) exposure
• NIST CSF 2.0: Identify (Risk Assessment, Asset Management), Detect (Continuous Monitoring), Protect (vulnerability remediation), Respond
• OWASP: Web Top 10 A06 Vulnerable and Outdated Components, A05 Security Misconfiguration; supports full Top 10 detection coverage
• CIS Controls v8: 7 (Continuous Vulnerability Management), 1 & 2 (Asset/Software Inventory), 4 (Secure Configuration), 18 (Penetration Testing)
**Innovation** — Improved Existing Solution — the space is crowded (Nessus, Qualys, Nuclei), so differentiation comes from orchestration, prioritization intelligence, and clean workflow integration rather than novel scanning. Scores: Innovation 5/10, Startup 6/10, Enterprise-Readiness 6/10, Patent = No.
