Grid & Cloud Computing Security

Secure a distributed grid/multi-cloud compute environment against IAM abuse, misconfiguration, multi-tenant escape, and cross-domain lateral movement with continuous posture assur…

**The problem**
Large-scale grid, HPC, and multi-cloud environments pool compute across administrative domains, where shared job schedulers, container runtimes, and burst-to-cloud pipelines expand the attack surface far beyond any single trust boundary. Misconfigured cloud IAM, exposed metadata services, insecure inter-node job submission, and multi-tenant escape can turn one compromised node into control of the whole grid. Elastic, ephemeral infrastructure also outpaces traditional asset inventory and monitoring, leaving orphaned resources and drift.

**What you'll build**
Build a secure multi-cloud/grid reference environment with hardened IAM (least-privilege roles, no long-lived keys, workload identity federation), Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) for continuous misconfiguration detection, protected metadata endpoints, encrypted inter-node job submission, and cloud-native runtime threat detection. Attack it (SSRF-to-metadata credential theft, privilege escalation across accounts, container escape, malicious grid job) and defend with CNAPP-style detection and infrastructure-as-code guardrails. Deliver a hardened, continuously-audited grid/cloud architecture mapped to CIS Benchmarks and NIST CSF.

**Objective** — Secure a distributed grid/multi-cloud compute environment against IAM abuse, misconfiguration, multi-tenant escape, and cross-domain lateral movement with continuous posture assurance.

**Expected outcome** — A hardened multi-cloud/grid lab with IaC guardrails, a CSPM/runtime-detection pipeline, an attack playbook, and a posture-and-compliance report against CIS Benchmarks.

**Difficulty** — Advanced — requires multi-cloud IAM depth, container/HPC internals, and both offensive and defensive cloud skills.
