Next-Gen YARA Scanning Pipeline

Build a scalable, CI-managed YARA scanning pipeline with rule governance, threat-intel correlation, and precision measurement.

**The problem**
YARA is powerful but often run ad-hoc on single hosts, with unmanaged rules, no scale, and no feedback loop, so detections lag and false positives go unmeasured. Enterprises need to scan huge volumes of files and memory continuously, version their rules, and correlate hits with threat intel. Most teams lack an engineered YARA-at-scale capability.

**What you'll build**
Build a scalable YARA scanning pipeline that ingests files/samples and memory images, distributes scanning across workers, and manages a version-controlled, CI-tested rule repository. Correlate matches with threat intel and ATT&CK, feed hits into a SIEM/TIP, and continuously measure rule precision to prune noisy signatures — effectively a detection-engineering platform around YARA.

**Objective** — Build a scalable, CI-managed YARA scanning pipeline with rule governance, threat-intel correlation, and precision measurement.

**Expected outcome** — A distributed YARA pipeline with a version-controlled rule repo, automated rule testing, match enrichment, and a precision/false-positive dashboard.

**Difficulty** — Advanced — requires distributed scanning architecture, rule lifecycle/CI engineering, and detection-quality measurement.

**Primary category** — Detection Engineering; Secondary = Malware Analysis, CTI, SOC

**Security domains** — Primary = Threat Intelligence; Secondary = Malware Analysis, Blue Team, DevSecOps, Incident Response

**Technical focus** — YARA rule engineering, distributed scanning, rule lifecycle/CI, memory scanning, threat-intel correlation, false-positive measurement, sample ingestion, ATT&CK mapping, detection-as-code

**Core technologies** — Languages: Python, Go; Frameworks/Libraries: yara-python, YARA-X, Celery/Kafka workers, klara/yara-ci; Security Tools: YARA, capa, MISP, ClamAV, Loki (YARA scanner); Cloud/Infra: Kubernetes, object storage (S3/MinIO), message queue; AI/Data: rule-precision analytics, feature extraction; Databases: Elasticsearch (matches), PostgreSQL (metadata), MISP

**Where it's valued** — Threat-intel vendors, MSSPs/MDR, large enterprise SOCs, AV/EDR vendors, national CERTs
