Zero-Trust Wireless Access Architecture

Architect and document a NIST 800-207-aligned Zero-Trust wireless access model with continuous, context-aware authorization.

**The problem**
Traditional wireless networks grant broad network access once a device joins the SSID, treating the WLAN as an implicit trust boundary that attackers exploit for lateral movement after a single credential or device compromise. Flat wireless segments, static PSKs, and perimeter-only controls fail against modern threats where the "inside" is no longer trustworthy. Organizations need a wireless design where every device and session is continuously authenticated, authorized, and least-privileged per NIST 800-207.

**What you'll build**
Design a reference Zero-Trust wireless architecture combining 802.1X/EAP-TLS certificate-based authentication, per-user/per-device dynamic VLAN and SGT/microsegmentation, device-posture checks, and continuous policy evaluation through a policy decision point (PDP) and policy enforcement points (PEP). Integrate identity (IdP), NAC, and telemetry so access decisions are contextual (identity + device health + location + risk) rather than SSID-based.

**Objective** — Architect and document a NIST 800-207-aligned Zero-Trust wireless access model with continuous, context-aware authorization.

**Expected outcome** — A reference architecture package with network diagrams, policy-engine logic, segmentation design, and a working lab demonstrating per-session least-privilege wireless access.

**Difficulty** — Advanced — integrates 802.1X, NAC, microsegmentation, identity, and posture into a coherent, policy-driven design.

**Primary category** — IAM / Zero-Trust Architecture; Secondary = Network Security, Cloud Security, GRC

**Security domains** — Primary = Cloud Security / Network Security Architecture (GRC-adjacent); Secondary = Blue Team, GRC, DevSecOps, IAM

**Technical focus** — NIST 800-207 ZTA, 802.1X/EAP-TLS, dynamic VLAN/SGT, microsegmentation, NAC, device posture, policy decision/enforcement points, continuous authorization, identity federation
